ABTA’s “Supportive Care and Brain Tumors” Webinar

The American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) will host a free educational webinar series, “Supportive Care and Brain Tumors”, on January 17. Dr. Tobias Walbert, MD, from the Henry Ford Hospital, will discuss the role of supportive care, symptom management, and how patients and their loved ones might benefit from advanced care planning.

Brain Tumor Caregiver Support Group

This 15-week online support group is for people caring for a loved one with a primary malignant brain tumor or brain metastasis. This group is a safe, convenient, and confidential space where caregivers can discuss the unique challenges of caring for a loved one with a brain tumor while giving and receiving support, information, and guidance. This group is professionally moderated by a licensed oncology social worker and is completely free of charge.

The Head for the Cure team will be heading to North Texas to host our kickoff reception on February 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Blue Mesa Southwest Grill - Plano. The kickoff will give you the chance to meet our staff, discuss ideas for this year's event and receive event collateral to start marketing for the event.  Please feel free to bring team members and/or individuals looking to get more involved.

The Bluebonnet Retreat

Spring: April 6-8, 2018
Application deadline is March 9, 2018

The Bluebonnet Retreat offers, at no charge, a unique experience for adult cancer patients. During the three-day, two-night camp, attendees are provided a creative, educational atmosphere of support with a focus on wellness. The retreat is a special project of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford and is funded through donations. Ambulatory adults age 18 or older who have been diagnosed with cancer within the past five years are invited to attend. The retreat is held each year in the fall and spring. Attendance is limited to 24 and first time campers receive priority. More information about the camp and application process can be found here.

Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising hope, awareness, and funding in the fight against brain cancer. Our 5K events are not only successful fundraisers, but unique tributes to those who are fighting brain cancer and those who have lost their battles. Their memories carry on through the teams that are formed around them, and these teams return year after year to celebrate their legacies. Funds raised from the event benefit the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC) and UT Southwestern.

 Lori Leu is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) based in Plano and serving the North Texas area. Lori graduated from Kansas State University, summa cum laude, with an honors degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. She then graduated from Harvard Law School in 1987 and has over thirty years of legal experience. She is one of the few attorneys in Texas who has earned the title of Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. Lori provides legal guidance and representation primarily to senior adults and their families. She focuses her practice on all legal issues affecting seniors and long-term care planning, including financing of long-term care, Medicaid planning, VA benefits, estate planning, guardianships, and probate.

The National Brain Tumor Society hosts an annual walk at Trinity Park, and you can participate as part of the "Grey Matters No TX Support Group" (please note that there is another group by the name Grey Matters, so make sure you select the correct team).
